The agent of Pedro Caixinha has revealed that he is in talks with the Rangers hierarchy over the manager’s shock departure.

Nuno Batista has explained that he and his Portugese client are locked in negotiations with the Ibrox hierarchy over the terms of the severance package.

Caixinha is due a pay-off after he was dismissed last Thursday with more than two years remaining on the contract that he signed in March.

The Scottish Sun report that four Mexican clubs are keen to appoint Caixinha but cannot do so until he reaches an agreement with the Glasgow giants.

One of those is Caixinha’s former club Santos Laguna, while there is also interest from Mexican heavyweights Guadalajara, Cruz Azul and Pumas.

Batista told the Scottish Sun: “Yes, there has been contract from Mexican clubs, but we cannot talk to anyone until we reach agreement with Rangers.

“We are still trying to finalise the details with them and that is our priority for now. After that, we can analyse the offers that have come in both from clubs in Europe and elsewhere.

“We are not ruling anything out for now. Pedro has a great affection for Mexican football. He obviously worked there for a few years and did very well.

“He loves to work and get involved with a serious project and there are plenty of opportunities in Mexican football.”

OPINION

Eyebrows may be raised by claims that four clubs already want to make Caixinha their new manager. But the Mexican league is a relative backwater despite the passion for the game in the central American country. Rangers fans could be forgiven for thinking that managing Santos Laguna or one of the other Mexican clubs is about Caixinha’s level, following his difficulty in making a genuine impact during his seven months in the Ibrox hotseat.
