Robbie Savage has revealed his combined Manchester XI and Jose Mourino’s men come out comfortably on top, with the Special One even getting the nod as manager ahead of Pep Guardiola.

He unveiled his team, including seven players who make his bench, in his column in the Mirror.

David de Gea gets the nod in goal, and is captain, and he’s supported by Kyle Walker, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Ashley Young, with the former Tottenham player being the only City man in so far.

Nemanja Matic, Kevin de Bruyne and Paul Pogba make up the midfield, with David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku in attack.

That makes it seven Man United players in the starting XI and just four from Guardiola’s City.

Man City are better represented on the bench, with Ederson, John Stones, Marouane Fellaini, Bernado Silva, Leroy Sane and Anthony Martial named as Savage’s subs.

It means that there’s no place for United’s summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan or City’s second star striker Gabriel Jesus in the squad of 18.

OPINION

Man City fans won’t be happy with this at all although United supporters will be rubbing their hands together with delight. It looks highly likely that the Premier League title will go to one side or the other in Manchester this year, with just one goal separating the teams at the top at the moment. They’re already five points clear of Tottenham in third and neither team has lost a game. It’s going to make for an exciting season, although we would have found a spot for Mkhitaryan, even if it was just on the bench.
