Stuart Pearce believes that Tottenham should be targeting a top-four finish in the Premier League season and has hinted that the title may be beyond them.

Spurs have begun the season in decent form and are third in the table during into the international break.

The North London club beat Huddersfield 4-0 in their last match and are beginning to rekindle their top form.

However, they are already five points adrift of early pacesetters Manchester City and Manchester United, who are the two favourites for the league crown.

Meanwhile, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have also shown in glimpses their quality this season as they look to be in the mix at the top of the table.

Ex-England international Pearce has claimed that there are better teams than Spurs in the division and that securing a Champions League spot should be their aim.

“There are better teams in the country than Spurs, but their aspiration should be to break into the top four again and get Champions League football,” Pearce told Yahoo Sport. ”We have six outstanding teams, who all have great squads, but only four can make it.

OPINION

Spurs are going slightly under the radar in terms of a title bid and that should play into their hands. They have been the most consistent team in England over the past two seasons after challenging eventual champions Leicester and then Chelsea for the title. Mauricio Pochettino’s side now have great experience in their side and any team with Harry Kane in attack can cause some serious damage. Meanwhile, they still look defensively resolute and Davinson Sanchez looks an incredible signing. The Wembley factor may be the only stumbling block for Spurs this season, but it would be foolish to rule them out of finally getting over the line in the Premier League and winning their first crown.
