David Ginola has claimed Tottenham must keep Harry Kane despite reported interest from Real Madrid, while also starting that they should be looking to add to their squad.

Spanish outlet Don Balon report that the La Liga club are lining up a mega swoop for Kane next summer and that they are not deterred by his £177million price tag.

Ginola has suggested that Spurs could become a European heavyweight if they keep the 24-year-old and try to snap up a few Madrid players in return.

He has suggested that Gareth Bale and Luka Modric would be perfect captures for the North London club and that they could help them compete on the European stage.

The duo previously played for Spurs before making big-money moves to Madrid, but Ginola believes they should make a return to the Premier League.

“Bring Bale back to Tottenham and keep Harry Kane and bring in a new era for Spurs,” Ginola told talkSPORT. “I am talking about five, ten years coming, they will be brilliant.

“Modric [as well] would be fantastic. Modric in the middle of the park, Bale on the left hand side, Kane up front, Dele Alli as the number 10 – that could be interesting. Why not make Tottenham the best team in Europe?”

OPINION

Spurs’ immediate priority should be in securing Kane’s future at the club and they will be wary of Madrid’s interest. The centre-forward has been a consistent goalscorer for the past couple of years and the 24-year-old already has 11 goals in nine matches this campaign. He is essential to helping Spurs progress as a club and could help them finally get over the line in their pursuit of silverware under Mauricio Pochettino. Meanwhile, the idea of snapping up Modric and Bale would have Spurs fans ecstatic, but a return for either fan favourite seems unlikely.
