Anthony Georgiou has signed a new contract with Tottenham until 2019 with an option to an extend for a further year, according to an insider.

The 20-year-old winger made his senior debut for Tottenham in the 3-0 win against Apoel Nicosia, when he came on for a six minute cameo.

His contract was due to expire next summer but he has obviously caught the eye of Mauricio Pochettino and earned himself a new one-year deal, plus an option, which will hopefully give him time to convince the manager that he deserves more time with the first team.

News of the contract was released on Lilywhite Rose’s Twitter account, a reliable source of Tottenham news, especially for breaking academy stories.

OPINION

Georgiou made his debut for Tottenham in the Champions League against Apoel Nicosia, a particularly proud moment for the player who turned out for Cyprus Under-20s and whose grandparents are Cypriot. The midfielder suffered from injuries last year but has been a regular for the Under-23s where he has gained a good reputation as a speed machine. The versatile winger can also double as a left-back, making him an ideal candidate for a future with Pochettino.
