Liverpool fans took to Twitter to slam Dejan Lovren in the wake of his performance in their 1-1 draw against Newcastle United on Sunday.
The Merseysiders collected only one point at St James’ Park in an absorbing Premier League encounter after Philippe Coutinho had put them ahead after 29 minutes with his third brilliant goal in three matches.
Joselu equalised shortly afterwards after Jonjo Shelvey spotted a huge gap between Lovren and his centre-back partner Joel Matip to put the striker through on goal.
The ex-Stoke City man was fortunate that his hesitation did not prove costly as Matip’s last-ditch challenge helped push the ball over the line.
The defensive blunder by key duo Lovren and Matip prevented Liverpool ending a testing week on a high.
Supporters of the Merseyside club were in unforgiving mood on social media as they destroyed Croatia international Lovren for his defending and what they felt was wanton distribution.
This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets:
Lovren and Sakho were awful and now Lovren and Matip. Surely we’ve clicked on that the defender named twice is the problem? #LFC
