The Chronicle reported on Friday that 21-year-old Bamba had refused to sign a new contract with Saint-Etienne and that he’d been a target for Rafa Benitez over the summer.

This news could alert Newcastle and lead to a move in January for the highly-rated youngster who can play out wide or as a striker.

He’s made eight appearances in Ligue 1 so far this season, scoring four goals and adding an assist.

The France Under-21 international has two goals in four games for his country and could be the next goal-scoring hero at St James’ Park.
