Everton fans took to Twitter to pan Gylfi Sigurdsson in the wake of their 1-1 Premier League draw against Brighton on Sunday afternoon.
The Merseysiders stopped the rot as a last-minute Wayne Rooney penalty salvaged a point in an unremarkable clash at the Amex Stadium.
Brighton were on course to secure their third successive home league win when Anthony Knockaert slotted home in the 82nd minute after Jose Izquierdo’s shot was blocked by Michael Keane.
But with the clock ticking down, defender Bruno elbowed Everton youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the area as a free-kick was floated in.
Rooney stepped up to send Mat Ryan the wrong way with his spot-kick and, in a late Everton rally the goalkeeper rescued his side when he twice saved from substitute Kevin Mirallas in the closing seconds.
But the performance was not enough to convince the Goodison Park faithful, and one player who was heavily criticised on social media was £45million summer signing Gylfi Sigurdsson, who has struggled to make an impression since his arrival from Swansea.
The Iceland international once again looked off-key and his display was summed up by a 20-yard free-kick that flew a long way off target.

It seems like we have paid 45 million for an Icelandic version of Leon Britton rather than Gylfi Sigurdsson #EFC

I’ll say it again, balance brings a steadiness and game shape to a team. Sigurdsson on the left is just woeful. Williams though ????#egg
