Ayoze Perez completed 66 minutes for Newcastle United in the win over Crystal Palace – and the club’s supporters on Twitter ripped into him for his performance.
The Magpies recorded a narrow 1-0 win over bottom of the league Palace and will be relieved to snatch the three points late on.
Substitute Mikel Merino managed an 85th minute winner as his header was converted from Matt Ritchie’s corner.
Rafael Benitez’s side remain in the top half of the league after the 1-0 victory and were for the most part struggling in front of goal.
Perez was unable to really influence the match against Palace and his replacement Mohamed Diame made a greater impact off the bench.
The 24-year-old started in the number 10 role behind striker Joselu, but the duo were unable to create any clear cut chances.
Newcastle fans on social media were critical of his efforts against Palace and feel that he struggled in possession.

Perez gets some stick but he's been invisible this half. Needs hooking. #NUFC

Obviously Perez's intention not to keep hold of the ball #nufc

Is it too early to start the Pérez bashing? He's lost the ball about 5 times. Guess I'll wait for the next 5 (so about 10 minutes…) #NUFC

I’m beyond fed up of Perez, honestly what does he bring to the team? A passenger once again in that half #NUFC

Perez has been a mainstay in the Newcastle side this season and started every Premier League game so far.
He has constantly divided opinion with fans throughout the season and hoped for some respite after scoring last weekend against Southampton.
However, the Spaniard once again failed to make an influence in the final third against Palace and supporters have been on his case.
Perez now has just one goal from his opening nine games and could find his position under threat, despite being a big favourite of Benitez.
