Aleksandar Mitrovic was omitted from the squad during the defeat against Burnley – and the Newcastle United fans on Twitter have urged manager Rafael Benitez to recall the attacker.
The 23-year-old striker has been on the fringes of the Magpies squad so far this campaign and made just three appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals in return.
He was absent on Monday night as the North East club suffered a 1-0 away defeat at Turf Moor.
Burnley picked up a narrow victory over Newcastle courtesy of a 74th minute goal from midfielder Jeff Hendrick.
Benitez’s side struggled in front of goal during the game and it was another quiet night for attacking duo Joselu and Ayoze Perez.
Newcastle fans on social media believe that Mitrovic should be getting a chance in the starting XI following the performance of their attackers in the loss to Burnley.
They host Bournemouth on Saturday in their next clash and will hope the Serbia international gets an opportunity to show his quality.

I 100% trust Rafa but he needs to realise that Mitrovic needs to be in the squad, Joselu is doing nothing up top ???? #NUFC

Overall #NUFC performing well but, weakest links have been Joselu and Perez, disappointed about Mitrovic's game time also, need goals! #MNF

Surely Mitrovic should be included in the squad. At least he offers a different presence. #nufc

Think what you want of Mitrovic but the fact he isn't even getting on our bench is baffling… #nufc

Mitrovic is currently out of favour at St James’ Park and is struggling to get a look in despite the current Newcastle side lacking a serious goal threat.
Joselu has been unable to become prolific in front of goal for Benitez’s side and the manager will need a regular scorer this season.
Mitrovic has shown in the past he can score in the top flight and netted nine times during the 2015/16 campaign when they were relegated from the Premier League.
