Eric Dier is hopeful that Tottenham can win their first Premier League this season and believes the team are edging towards their prime.

Spurs have been in the title running for the past two campaigns, but have lost out to Leicester and Chelsea respectively.

Mauricio Pochettino has built a formidable side in recent years and it’s had a strong young core running through the spine, with the likes of Dier, Harry Kane and Dele Alli becoming crucial players.

The north London club have never won the Premier League and many feel that their current squad is the best in years.

Dier hopes that the Spurs players continue to develop as individuals and feels they are getting closer to winning the top-flight title.

“I think we have to keep going in the same way as we have been doing,” Dier told GQ magazine. ”We need to keep working hard, and keep trying to improve as a group.

“I think we are a young team that is edging towards being not quite such a young team and we have to focus on improving as individuals and as a team. Hopefully that way we can get that one step closer and win the League this year.”

Dier is one of the ever-presents in the Spurs side and has started all three Premier League games so far.

The versatile ace, who can play in midfield or defence, is currently away on international duty with England and will hope to continue his starting run for Spurs in the next clash against Everton.

He could now be battling for a midfield position following the arrival of defender Davinson Sanchez, who looks well suited to being a right-sided centre-back.

OPINION

Spurs have looked extremely strong in the last two seasons and there is a feeling that they missed their best opportunity to win the title. The two Manchester clubs have emerged as serious contenders this season, while Chelsea and Liverpool do look strong outfits. Many people feel that Pochettino’s starting XI is the best in the division, but that will be impossible to keep over a 38-game season. They have the experience of title chases recently and are a familiar group of players that have gelled well. They could be considered the dark horses this year as not much of the focus is on them, something that could work in their advantage.
