Josh Windass could be ruled out of the Old Firm derby on Saturday after being caught making an offensive gesture to Partick Thistle fans, according to the Daily Record.

It reports that Windass was caught making the gesture by the cameras and that it is “expected to be picked up by compliance officer Tony McGlennan.”

If that happens then he is likely to pick up a one-match ban.

If Rangers appeal then it is expected that a panel would hear the case on Thursday – and if rejected he would still miss the huge Celtic game.

OPINION

Pedro Caixinha needs all his players available for the Old Firm derby match on Saturday if he’s going to have any chance of derailing the Celtic train. He’s already sweating on the fitness of his two left-backs, Lee Wallace and Declan John, and now he could be faced with losing one of his key attackers. Windass has enjoyed a fine season to date, and scored and provided an assist in the 4-1 win over Dundee. However, it looks like a stupid moment of madness is going to cost him a chance to shine in the Old Firm derby. With the cameras catching the incident it seems inevitable that Caixinha will now be a man down for the derby, and Windass only has himself to blame. If Rangers are going to challenge Celtic for the title this season, they need all their players to focus on matters on the pitch – and not worry about what’s going on in the stands. The Old Firm cauldron will be even more testing that the game at Firhill, so Windass has really let the Rangers fans down here.
