Leeds flop Steve Morison has twisted the knife after his Millwall team inflicted the first defeat of the season on his former team, saying the Leeds team didn’t “fancy it”.

Leeds travelled to the New Den brimming with confidence after an unbeaten start to the season which saw them sitting on top of the Championship table.

However, they came unstuck in a game that they never managed to get into and lost 1-0, only managing one shot themselves through the 90 minutes.

After the game Morison was quick to point out that his team enjoyed bursting the bubble of their Yorkshire rivals.

“They were already crowned champions after six games,” said Morison in the Daily Mail.

“There’s a hell of a long way to go and we showed teams how good we can be and how bad we can make someone else look. We’re a good team and no-one is going to enjoy playing here.

“When we play like that – and if you don’t fancy it and you don’t want to have the scrap with us – you’re going to come unstuck.”

Morison joined Leeds from Norwich in January 2013 before being loaned to Millwall six months later.

The striker made the move permanent in August 2015 after scoring just five goals in 42 games for Leeds.

OPINION

Leeds are going to have off days and this was one of them. No one will deny that they had a poor performance, and now manager Thomas Christiansen will be looking for a big reaction when they face Burnely in the EFL Cup tomorrow and Ipswich in the Championship at Elland Road on Saturday. The Leeds players would have known what they were up against at the New Den, and despite Millwall sitting in 19th in the table before the game, it was never going to be an easy game. Millwall fans will have relished putting one over their bigger and better rivals, and Christiansen’s job will now be getting the players’ focus back on the job. He said all the right things after the game and his men are still top of the league. A win against Ipswich on Saturday will get things back on track.
