Rangers’ summer signing Alfredo Morelos has revealed that he is focussed on creating history at the club and has his sights firmly set on the Premiership title this season.

The 21-year-old moved to the Ibrox Stadium from HJK Helsinki early on during the transfer window and is tied down at the club until 2020.

Morelos has settled in incredibly well with the Light Blues and has scored eight goals in nine appearances so far – six of these coming in just as many Premiership fixtures.

The Colombian centre-forward is aware of his impressive start and is completely focussed on helping Pedro Caixinha’s side reach to top of the standings.

“My aim at Rangers is to be league champions,” Morelos revealed, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“I want to make history with Rangers, I want to win the title this year and I want to make sure the Rangers fans are happy.

“When I meet them, they always ask me to score against Celtic. They tell me if I score the winner against them, they will get my name tattooed onto their skin!

“This weekend, we play Celtic for the first time this season and I cannot wait for that. It’s one of the biggest and most famous classics in the world.”

Morelos is likely to feature in Caixinha’s squad which face Partick Thistle on Tuesday in the Scottish League Cup quarter final, before preparing to host their rivals in the first Old Firm showdown of the season.

OPINION

Alfredo Morelos’ can-do attitude and passion to succeed in the Premiership is exactly what Rangers need going into the Old Firm clash on Saturday. His impressive record has impressed fans and teammates so far, and they’ll be hoping his form continues in their biggest Premiership match of the season so far. Morelos seems to know what to expect in the Old Firm derby, but even he might be taken aback by the passion and the atmosphere on Saturday. He’ll be pumped for the occasion but it’s important that he stays calm under the pressure too. Many players have crumpled under the pressure of an Old Firm derby before.
