Carlos Pena is set for his first start of the season tonight in the Scottish League Cup v Partick.

Pena moved to Rangers from Mexican side Guadalajara for a fee of £2.7m in July, but has only made cameo appearances in the Premiership to date.

He played for 27 minutes in the 2-2 draw against Partick on Friday night and scored his first goal in the Premiership game in the 83rd minute against Dundee that Rangers won 4-1.

However, this wasn’t enough to win him a start in the next game.

EstConsultancy, which is a reliable source of news for Rangers, tweeted the early team news on Tuesday afternoon, ahead of the 7.45pm kick-off.

The 27-year-old played 37 games for his last club, scoring eight goals, but was prolific for Club Leon.

He made 164 appearances for them, scoring 42 goals and adding 10 assists, although he also picked up 21 yellow cards in these games.

OPINION

Carlos Pena has been patient waiting for a start at his new club, and he’s going to have to take his opportunity with both hands if he wants to force his way into the reckoning for the first team on a regular basis. One of Caixinha’s other summer signings, Alfredo Morelos, has been firing goals in for fun, scoring six goals in six Premiership games. Pena gets his chance tonight with Kenny Miller being rested, and if he has a stunning performance he might even get a shot at the Old Firm derby on Saturday, although with his yellow card record Caixinha might want him to keep his power dry during the hotly anticipated clash at Ibrox.
