Pedro Caixinha has revealed that centre-forward Kenny Miller will be left out of the Rangers squad to face Partick Thistle on Tuesday evening in the Scottish League Cup quarter final.

The 37-year-old has featured in all of the Light Blues’ fixtures so far this season across all competitions and has scored two goals, but is set to have a rest.

During the club press conference, Caixinha revealed that he wants his top-choice forward to completely switch off from the game and instead spend a day with his family.

“Kenny Miller will be given a break. He will have a day off tomorrow to enjoy with the family. I want him to switch off from football,” Caixinha said, as quoted on the club’s official Twitter account.

Tuesday’s fixture will be the second time in just days that Rangers will meet Partick Thistle, as the clubs clashed in the Premiership on Friday.

The recent game ended in a 2-2 draw thanks to goals from summer signings Graham Dorrans and Alfredo Morelos.

Following their midweek game, the Light Blues will look ahead to their first Old Firm clash of the season as they host Celtic on Saturday.

OPINION

Resting Kenny Miller and allowing him to completely disconnect from football for a day will allow the centre-forward to return with a fresh mindset for the Old Firm clash. The 37-year-old has become a fan favourite and proven goalscorer at the club and although his efforts will be missed on Tuesday it will ensure the veteran forward will be fighting fit for Saturday’s game against Celtic. The Hoops are in fine form in the Premiership and Caixinha is doing the right thing by allowing the goal scorer to step away and return in the strongest way possible. Miller will also probably be captaining his side on Saturday as skipper Lee Wallace remains out with injury.
