Former Leeds striker Chris Wood has backed his old team to pack out the away support in the EFL Cup tie against Burnley tonight.

Wood, along with Charlie Taylor, left Leeds in the summer to move to Premier League side Burnley, and the striker said it was “inevitable” that they would get drawn against each other.

Talking in the Lancashire Telegraph, Wood said he is expecting a big turnout from Leeds fans – who he said had been “brilliant” to him last year.

“The fans last year were brilliant to me and they have a great bunch of fans, it will be nice to play them and see them, they will bring 5,000 I am sure, that is what they do.”

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has said that he will ring the changes tonight, which means that Wood might not get to play against his former side.

However, Charlie Taylor has been left out of the squad for the past two Burnley games in the Premier Legaue and it’s likely that he will play.

Wood also tipped Leeds for promotion back into the Premier League “where everyone says they belong”, but added it would be a lot of work.

OPINION

Sean Dyche will probably rest Chris Wood tonight, although it’s likely that he’ll be on the bench. He would love a chance to play against his old teammates and test the waters with Leeds fans who fell in love with him last season. Wood almost fired Leeds back into the Premier League but took his chance to move up a division when they missed out on the play-offs. Saying that Leeds belong in the Premier League might win him some brownie points with fans tonight but the expectation is that Wood will get a hostile reception after the manner of his move. Fans might never know what really happened but the news that came out at the time said that Wood had refused to play for his club, and that never goes down well with the hardcore fans.
