Jose Mourinho has said that Man United “don’t cry” over injuries and have a squad that’s more than capable of coping with the recent injury to Paul Pogba.
Talking to MUTV after his side’s 3-0 win over Basel, with goals from Marouane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford, Mourinho, Mourinho said that he would take the loss in his stride and named the likely replacements for Pogba.
As quoted by Sky Sports, Mourinho said: “I don’t know [what the severity is]. I just know from experience it’s a muscular injury.
“In my experience, muscular injury stops you from playing for a few weeks, I think. It looks for me too [like a hamstring injury] but I haven’t spoken yet to the medical department.
“Squads are for this, squads are for injuries, squads are for suspensions. We don’t cry with injuries. So if no Paul for Sunday, we have (Ander) Herrera, we have (Michael) Carrick, we have Fellaini and we have (Nemanja) Matic.”
Pogba is reported to be undergoing a scan on Wednesday which will outline how severe the injury is, with estimates saying he could be out anywhere from three-to-six weeks.

Mourinho is putting a brave face on the injury suffered by Paul Pogba, but it’s a big blow to his team. Pogba flattered to deceive last season but has clicked in the new-look United team this season, scoring two goals and adding two assists already in just four Premier League games. However, he’s right in that United have a squad capable of replacing him in the short term. Fellaini came on against Basel and proved he still has a big part to play for United this season, scoring his team’s vital first goal. However, it will be a case of counting down the games with Pogba because, make no mistake, he is an absolutely vital part of the United machine. If they’re to sustain a title challenge over the whole season, they need Pogba fit and scoring goals.
