Chelsea could revert back to the more traditional back four in the new campaign and that is a system that would accommodate Rudiger well.
The £34million signing could play alongside Luiz as a centre-back pairing, with Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso as the full-back options.
Rudiger is used to playing in a four-man defence and could do a good job in that position for Stamford Bridge.
His versatility is set to make him a very important player for the Blues and it would not be a surprise to see him fill more than one position during the course of the season.
