West Ham should consider making a move to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic in the final week of the transfer window.

The Mirror claimed on its transfer blog (4:31am, Sunday) that the 28-year-old is eyeing a move to the Premier League.

It is understood that the Serbia International is keen to experience his first taste of English football and only has one year remaining on his contract with Dortmund.

Subotic is recognised for being a commanding centre-back that has been extremely successful with the German giants, but has slipped down the pecking order recently.

The defender struggled with injuries last season and was subsequently sent out on loan to Cologne, while the fact that he is yet to play this campaign suggests he has no future at Dortmund.

West Ham need to swoop now for him and would hold the advantage that he wants to force a move through to the Premier League.

The Hammers are in desperate need of a new centre-back to improve their options and the defence is a real concern for manager Slaven Bilic.

His side are going into the international break bottom of the Premier League table after losing their three opening games and conceding 10 goals in the process.

West Ham were brushed aside 3-0 away to Newcastle on Saturday and need a leader to come into the defence to change their fortune.

Subotic could be exactly that player and would be a real coup for the London club.

The physically imposing centre-back has won two Bundesliga titles in his career and is a very experienced player that has proven himself at the highest level.

He is brilliant in aerial battles and should be able to adjust quickly to the Premier League.

Some West Ham fans may be sceptical about his lack of game time recently, but it’s clear he wants a fresh move to reignite his career and did prove his fitness out on loan last year.
