OPINION

Tottenham are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Premier League rivals West Brom about defender Kevin Wimmer.

The Telegraph claim that Spurs and the Baggies are in talks about the 24-year-old making a permanent switch to the Hawthorns.

It is understood that West Brom are confident of securing a £15million deal imminently and that he could even be available for their game against Burnley on Saturday.

The report details that Spurs made the centre-back available this summer and that West Brom look like winning the race for his signature ahead of Stoke and Crystal Palace, which could rise to an eventual £20million fee.

Good move for Spurs?

Spurs signed Wimmer for £4.3million in 2015 and they will be doing very good business by selling him on for a big profit.

The Austrian has proven himself to be a very capable player and West Brom fans should be delighted if they secure his signature.

However, he is surplus to requirements in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad and has never been able to cement a position in the starting line-up.

Toby Alderweirled and Jan Verotnghen are two world-class options in defence, while they could be further boosted if they sign target Davinson Sanchez from Ajax.

Spurs have done extremely well to gain some attention to Wimmer’s signature and it seems like the right time for him to leave North London.

Likely to happen?

Wimmer seems very likely to complete his move to West Brom in the remainder of the transfer window and the fact talks are at an advanced stage is positive.

The centre-back made just 10 appearances last season across all competitions and even found himself behind emerging youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers at time.

His future at Spurs appears to be over and he will look to reignite his career under Tony Pulis at West Brom, who have a very strong defensive record.
