Swansea plotting £6m move for Celtic ace Armstrong

|

Swansea are reportedly set to try replace Everton-bound Gylfi Sigurdsson with Celtic ace Stuart Armstrong.

The Sun claim that the Premier League side have identified a replacement for attacking midfielder Sigurdsson as he closes in on a move to Everton for £45million.

It is understood that the Swans want to sign midfielder Armstrong from the Scottish champions in a £6million move.

The report details that they are looking to agree a cut-price deal with Celtic for the 25-year-old, who is currently in dispute with the club about exiting his existing contract which expires in 2018.

The Bhoys have offered Armstrong a new deal, but he is continuing to stall over it.

Good move for Celtic?

Armstrong was one of Celtic’s outstanding players last season, scoring 17 goals in 47 appearances from midfield.

The Scotland international has been rejuvenated under Brendan Rodgers and should look to continue at Parkhead, but is believed to be interested in a move to the Premier League.

Celtic need players that are fully committed to the jersey and receiving £6million for a player whose contract expires next summer is a decent fee.

He has played a minimal role so far in the new season and they appear to have the strength in depth without him.

Celtic need a definitive answer from Armstrong on his future and selling him on for £6million might not be a bad thing at this stage.

Likely to happen?

Armstrong appears to be after an improved deal with Celtic as he stalls over a new contract offer.

The goalscoring midfielder was in great form last season and become a popular player, but everything appears to have gone wrong over the summer.

He is yet to cement a position in the starting XI in the new campaign and may want to move away to prove himself in the Premier League.

Rodgers is keen for Armstrong to stay, but the firepower of the Premier League spending could be enough to take him away from Scotland.
