Argentine sensation Juan Foyth is poised to undergo a Tottenham medical and complete a £12million transfer before the window shuts, according to the Times.

The newspaper claim that the young centre-back, who is renowned for his excellent passing and ability to build attacks as well as defend, is set to travel to London in the coming days to put the finishing touches to a deal.

The Times report that Spurs have settled a fee with Foyth’s club Estudiantes following extensive negotiations.

Good move for Tottenham?

There is always an element of a gamble with young players, especially those hailing from overseas. But Foyth has impressive pedigree and also hails from the same country as manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has an excellent track record for developing young talent. Foyth was an ever-present for Argentina at the Under-20 World Cup and his composure on the ball drew admiring glances. His hero is Gerard Pique, one of the outstanding centre-backs of the last decade. If Foyth can be half as good as the serial-winning Spaniard, he will turn out to be a shrewd signing.
