OPINION

Rangers attacker Martyn Waghorn is reportedly set to complete a move to Ipswich.

The Mail claim that the 27-year-old striker is poised to join the English Championship side, despite their being interest from Sunderland.

It is understood that the Gers accepted a bid in the region of £1million from Ipswich and he is set to end his two-year stay at Ibrox.

Good move for Rangers?

Rangers are set to receive a £1million sum for Waghorn, which is decent money considering he is entering the final year of his contract.

The forward should do well on his return to the Championship and Pedro Caixinha has the options to cover his departure.

He started with Eduardo Herrera Kenny Miller and Josh Windass in attack during the club’s opening game of the season, while Alfredo Morelos and Dalcio provide alternative options.

Waghorn proved to be a consistent scorer during this time with the Scottish giants, but doesn’t seem to fit in Caixinha’s plans.

He scored 44 goals in 78 appearances for the Gers, but this summer seems to be the right time to move him on.

Likely to happen?

This deal looks on the verge of being completed after a £1million sum was negotiated between the two teams.

Rangers and Ipswich have already done business this summer as Joe Garner completed the switch from Ibrox to Portman Road.

Caixinha has made it clear that he is trying to undergo huge changes at the Scottish club and remoulding his strike force has been one of the notable alterations.

Waghorn may feel he has a point to prove following a return to England and will want to continue in his goalscoring form.
