Newcastle have been desperately searching for a new goalkeeper this summer and should perhaps turn their attention to Liverpool ace Simon Mignolet.

The Magpies have been linked with some big names to challenge for the number one jersey at St James’ Park and the Liverpool shot stopper would be a big coup of they can pull it off.

Sky Sports report that Mignolet has been dropped completely from the Reds squad for their game against Arsenal on Sunday, despite being full available for the Premier League clash.

It is understood that the Belgium international wants to hold talks with manager Jurgen Klopp after being dropped in favour of Loris Karius and Danny Ward.

Newcastle should pounce now for an unsettled Mignolet and try to pursuade him to join them, where he would be the undisputed number one option ahead of Rob Elliot.

He is a quality player and has been heavily involved in Liverpool’s start to the season, but the competition at Anfield has reportedly seen him axed for a crucial league fixture.

The goalkeeper will need to think about himself and making sure he is plying regular football to ensure he is involved in Belgium’s World Cup squad.

Mignolet would be a big upgrade for Newcastle and a big bonus is that he is already proven in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old has 228 top-flight appearances under his belt during his spells with Liverpool and Sunderland.

It would be a bitter sweet move for Mignolet was to join Sunderland’s North East rivals Newcastle in the remainder of the transfer window, but a move could make sense for both parties.
