Valencia forward Alvaro Negredo is edging closer to joining Turkish top-flight club Besiktas despite there being strong interest from Leeds in the player.

Popular bookmakers Sky Bet have slashed the odds to 1/5 on the Spanish striker joining Besiktas in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Leeds are further back in the market and are 6/1 to complete a swoop for the 31-year-old.

Besiktas have seen their odds slashed since Sunday to sign the La Liga forward when they were the 4/6 frontrunners to secure his signature.

The Daily Mirror have previously reported that Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen is keen to sign Negredo this summer from Spanish club Valencia.

The Yorkshire giants are prepared to meet the £6.4million asking price, but it appears that Besiktas are in pole position to win the race.

Negredo has returned to Valencia following a season-long loan spell with Middlesbrough, who he was unable to save from Premier League relegation.

The forward still proved his qualities in a struggling team and managed 10 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.

Likely to happen for Leeds?

It is now very unlikely that Leeds are going to pull off a deal for Negredo and may have to turn their attention elsewhere for a back-up option to Chris Wood.

The forward proved his worth in the Premier League last season with Middlesbrough and is too good to drop down to the Championship.

Besiktas appear to be his most likely destination and he should be able to continue being a consistent goalscorer for the Turkish club.

It is reported Leeds would be prepared to pay over £6million to sign Negredo, but that would be very surprising giving their spending in recent years.
