OPINION

Chelsea are reportedly lining up a big-money move to sign Tottenham defender Danny Rose.

The Sun claim that Antonio Conte’s side have abandoned hopes of signing Alex Sandro from Juventus and switched their attention to the Spurs left-back.

It is understood that the Blues are preparing a £40million bid to sign the 27-year-old from their Premier League rivals.

Good move for Spurs?

Mauricio Pochettino’s side must ensure that they keep Rose at the club and his return from injury at the end of August will be a huge boost.

The north London club have already sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City this summer and can’t lose yet another key first teamer to a main league rival.

Ben Davies is a capable full-back in the Spurs squad, but Rose is arguably the best left-back in the division and a key player for Spurs.

The defender has improved so much since his arrival in 2007 and it would send out a dreadful message to supporters if they accepted a £40million offer from Chelsea for him.

Likely to happen?

The fact that Spurs have still not signed anyone this summer suggests they are happy with their squad and it would be a major shock to see Rose leave.

The defender is expected to slot straight back into the starting line-up when available and a switch to London rivals Chelsea seems highly unlikely.

However, Spurs fans will worry that a huge £40million move may be too hard to turn down and that it could be a repeat example of the Walker deal.
