OPINION

Celtic are reportedly set to complete the loan signing of Manchester City attacker Patrick Roberts on Monday.

The Mail claim that the 20-year-old is set to return to Parkhead for a second loan spell after dazzling last season in Scotland.

It is understood that the Bhoys have won the race ahead of Southampton, Huddersfield and Nice to land the wide man.

The report details that Roberts will undergo a medical with Celtic on Monday and that a season-long loan deal will be announced.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are set to pay a “significant” loan fee for the Englishman as he is a highly-rated talent at Man City.

Good move for Celtic?

There is no doubt that re-signing Roberts will give everyone a huge lift at the club and he can significantly improve the team.

Celtic salvaged a 1-1 draw against St Johnstone and are lacking the same kind of ruthlessness in front of goal they showed last season.

Roberts was a key player in the treble-winning time last year and is a player that Rodgers can trust to provide a goal threat from the right-wing position.

The attacker made 49 appearances last season across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and supplying 19 assists in return.

The youngster is only going to improve moving forward and Celtic will benefit hugely from his development.

??Likely to happen?

Celtic fans have been crying out for this deal to happen all summer and Monday looks like being the day the deal is finally pushed over the line.

The winger was always likely to return to the Scottish champions for another spell after it became clear that he was not going to be involved in Man City’s competitive first team for the new season.

He has had the offer to move to Premier League sides, but has personally opted for a move to Scotland and European football may have been a big pull.
