OPINION

Brighton are reportedly considering a move to sign Leeds talisman Chris Wood.

The Sun claim that the Seagulls are set to make a record-breaking move to try sign the 25-year-old striker from Elland Road.

It is understood that that they could submit a £12million offer for the New Zealand international and they want him to lead the line following their promotion to the Premier League.

The £12million sum would be a record the top-flight club, but it may not be enough for the Whites to part ways with their first teamer.

Good move for Leeds?

Leeds should definitely reject any imminent bid from Brighton for Wood as he is one of the best players at the club.

The forward is set to play a massive role if they are to get out of the Championship in the new season and his goals could fire them to promotion.

Thomas Christiansen has managed to add some quality this summer, but keeping hold of Wood is arguably the most important bit of business he can do.

He scored 30 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions and is arguably the best striker in the Championship.

Leeds should keep him integral to their plans and Wood is probably worth more than £12million given the current transfer market.

Likely to happen?

It seems very unlikely that Leeds will cash in on Wood in the closing weeks of the window, despite the fact they could receive a £12million windfall.

The Whites are short of proven goalscoers in their squad and a lot of the burden is likely to fall on the shoulders of Wood.

He will have a desire to play in the Premier League and has made just nine top-flight appearances with Leicester, but should feel that he can secure a comeback with Leeds.

The Yorkshire giants would surely want more than £12million to lose their prized asset and a deal seems improbable.
