OPINION

Aston Villa have reportedly made an enquiry to sign Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.

The Mirror claim that manager Steve Bruce has made an enquiry to try land the 25-year-old in a remarkable deal.

It is understood that the Midlands giants are prepared to offer a big contract and bonuses to try tempt the 34-time capped England international to follow in the footsteps of John Terry.

The report details that Arsenal are looking for a big fee and a permanent deal for Wilshere as he is in the final year of his contract.

Good move for Villa?

Wilshere would go down as one of the best ever signings in Championship history if he linked up with Villa as he is someone with huge pedigree.

The 25-year-old still has so much potential to fulfil if he can avoid his terrible bad luck with injuries that has plagued his career.

He was arguably England’s best midfielder when he burst on to the international scene and he is good enough to be in Arsenal’’s first team when fit.

Wilshere showcased some of his ball-playing talents while on loan at Bournemouth last season and undoubtedly would be highly influential if he dropped down to the Championship.

Villa have made some fantastic signings in the past 12 months, but this would surely go down as the best and would be an unbelievable capture.

Likely to happen?

It seems very unlikely that Wilshere would even consider dropping down to the Championship as it would all but end any World Cup hopes for 2018.

The midfielder seems destined to leave the Emirates Stadium to try reignite his career, but Villa shouldn’t be able to sign someone of his ability at a peak age.

They are likely to be blown out of the water by a top-flight club and the likes of Newcastle, Swansea and Sampdoria have been listed as interested.

Bruce has been able to call in a favour at Arsenal in the past and take the likes of Nicklas Bendtnar, Fabrice Muamba and Jermaine Pennant, but Wilshere seems a stretch too far.
