West Ham have launched a stunning late approach for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, according to a report.

The Daily Mail have claimed via their live transfer blog (Thursday, 2.29pm) that the Hammers and Championship side Birmingham have made enquiries about taking 25-year-old on loan from the Emirates Stadium.

The 34-time capped England international spent the last campaign with Bournemouth in the Premier League, while he has failed to make any of Arsenal’s match squads in the new campaign.

He is also into the final year of his contract with the Gunners and here, This Is Futbol has weighed up whether signing Wilshere will be good for West Ham and if it is likely to happen.

Good move for West Ham?

It certainly would be a good move for West Ham with there being no question marks over Wilshere in regards to his ability. The only reason Arsenal are even considering letting him go is due to a poor injury record, which has plagued what was thought to be a once promising career. However, Wilshere did impress during his time at Bournemouth in the last campaign and if he can bring similar form with him to the London Stadium then he could be an excellent capture for the Hammers.

Likely to happen?

It is clear that West Ham are looking for a new midfielder this summer with heavy links to both Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho and Barcelona’s Andre Gomes. Both may however be a level above what the Hammers can bring in and therefore the east Londoners may now be seeking a backup option like Wilshere. Arsenal are open to letting the midfielder depart this summer and with the transfer window entering it’s final hours this deal looks like it could be a real possibility.
