OPINION

Premier League side West Brom are reportedly eyeing a move for Liverpool outcast centre-back Mamadou Sakho.

The BBC have claimed on their website that the Baggies are interested in the £30million-rated 27-year-old amid incoming bids from Manchester City for star Jonny Evans.

The Frenchman has not featured for the Reds since an April 2016 clash against Everton following drug allegations and a bust-up with manager Jurgen Klopp during last summer’s pre-season tour of the United States, which saw him sent home.

Here, This Is Futbol examines whether selling Sakho is a good deal for Liverpool, and if the transfer of the former Paris Saint-Germain centre-back is at all possible.

Good move for Liverpool?

Sakho’s time at Liverpool is over plain and simply and that has been clear since the day he was sent home.

Klopp elected to play usual midfield enforcer Lucas Leiva in the back four over Sakho when he had no one else to turn to in the last campaign, which spoke volumes about how the German boss felt about the French defender.

If Liverpool do manage to make a £12million profit on a frozen out player after signing Sakho for £18million four summers a go then it would be a fantastic piece of business conducted by the Anfield giants.

Likely to happen?

With Sakho’s time at Liverpool seemingly up alongside it being a World Cup year you would expect that the Frenchman is surely trying for a move elsewhere.

However, the £30million valuation is likely to turn away a number of pursuers with Premier League clubs not even being able to offer such money for a centre-back, especially one currently deemed surplus for requirements.

Therefore, for this deal to go through it is likely that Liverpool will have to drop their price-tag, but it is more than likely that Sakho will no longer be a Reds player by the end of the window and a move to Premier League rivals West Brom would look appealing.
