OPINION

Tottenham have reportedly agree a five-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain right-back Serge Aurier ahead of a transfer to north London.

Former senior Sky Sports reporter Graeme Bailey has wrote for the Gambling Times that Spurs are confident of completing a deal for the 24-year-old Ivory Coast international with a deal already agreed.

Aurier has just two years remaining on his contract at the French capital club and has been left out of each of their four match squad in their opening games of the 2017-18 campaign in all competitions.

Here, This Is Futbol weighs up whether signing Aurier would be a good move for Tottenham and if it is likely to happen.

Good move for Tottenham?

This is a risky move for Tottenham given that Aurier is only being allowed to leave the club due to past controversies, including a disagreement with previous boss Laurent Blanc.

The Ivory Coast full-back was once thought of as a bright prospect and he has helped PSG lift two Ligue 1 titles alongside still having room to grow at 24.

Therefore, there is a risk that Aurier could fall out with manager Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, or he could tap back into his qualities and become a good buy for the north London club as they look to challenge for the title again.

Likely to happen?

Aurier has long been linked with Tottenham through various reports and it now seems like a matter of when it will happen, rather than if.

The north Londoners have tied young prospect Kyle Walker-Peters down to a new deal on Wednesday, but after the sale of Kyle Walker to Manchester City it has been well known that they are looking for a new senior right-back.

It looks as though Aurier is now the player that Spurs have targeted to replace Walker and if Pochettino’s side finish the summer without the 39-time Ivory Coast international then it will be more surprising than not.
