Crystal Palace enter talks with Newcastle target Tosun

|

Premier League side Crystal Palace have entered talks to sign Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun, who is also wanted by Newcastle, according to a report.

The Daily Mail have claimed via their live transfer blog (Thursday, 4.10pm) that the Magpies had made an enquiry for the 26-year-old Turkey international.

However, it is the Eagles who are pushing further ahead with a deal on deadline day with the report stating that the south east London side are in talks over a £10million deal.

Newcastle are reportedly chasing a striker in the closing hours of the window with question marks over the future of Dwight Gayle and if they miss out on Tosun, This Is Futbol has weighed up just how much of an impact it will have and if it is likely the Toon can hijack a move.

Good move for Newcastle?

Absolutely not. Newcastle need some added firepower to their ranks and if Tosun is available at £10million then the Magpies can more than match Crystal Palace. Last season Tosun bagged an incredible 24 goals in 47 matches in all competitions for the Turkish giants and in the new campaign he has already got started with two strikes from his first four outings. Goals are also invaluable in the Premier League and if Tosun works out to be a success in the Premier League alongside Newcastle struggling then if their reported approach is true then they may seriously regret not acting on it.

Likely to happen?

At this stage it very much looks like Crystal Palace are in the driving seat of this deal and Newcastle will have to pull something major out of the bag if they are to try and bring in Tosun before the 11.00pm deadline. One potential advantage Newcastle could have is that Palace already have Christian Benteke and the Turkey international is unlikely to oust him. Meanwhile, the Magpies have Joselu and Aleksander Mitrovic alongside the possibly departing Gayle and they could certainly offer more first team opportunities. However, for now it doesn’t look like a move to Newcastle is happening.
