Tottenham are growing in confidence that they have won the race for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to a report.

The Telegraph have claimed via their live transfer blog (Thursday, 3.31pm) that Spurs are now closing in on the loan signing of the 24-year-old following reports throughout the morning.

The Daily Mail claimed via their own transfer blog (Thursday, 1.47pm) that the north Londoners were at risk of missing out on Gomes due to him favouring West Ham with Portugal teammate Jose Fonte there alongside Barcelona being unwilling to strike a deal until they signed up a replacement.

However, Tottenham now seem to have taken poll position with the Telegraph stating that “more talks” have been held, resulting in the Hammers privately believing Gomes is to join Spurs.

With a move now seemingly looking close for Gomes, This Is Futbol has weighed up just how good a deal it can be for Spurs and how likely it is to happen.

Good move for Tottenham?

Gomes would be an incredible deadline day signing for Tottenham and shows just how far the club has come in recent years. Just last year the Portugal international was seen as one of the best midfielder’s in Europe and Spurs fans would have seen it as the deal of the century if they beat Barcelona to him last summer. The only thing that has changed over the past year is that he has struggled at the Nou Camp, but Tottenham will be getting a top quality player in Gomes if they do secure him.

Likely to happen?

This deal now seems to be picking up pace in the media and with Tottenham said to be favourites with seven hours left of the window it would suggest that he is moving to north London. Spurs fans themselves now expect Gomes to be holding the club’s shirt before the 11.00pm deadline and at this point it would be a huge surprise if Gomes is not a Tottenham player by the end of the day.
