Erik Sviatchenko chased by Lazio and Fiorentina

|

Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko is a wanted man, with reports from Danish outlet BT that both Lazio and Fiorentina are after his signature.

They are looking for a loan move with an option to buy, but it is reported that a move is unlikely before the summer transfer window shuts.

It was also reported that Copenhagen wanted him and he wanted to move to Denmark, but the Celtic asking price was too high.

According to the Scottish Sun, Copenhagen had a £2.7million bid rejected.

It is said that the Scottish giants wanted a fee of £3.5million.

Sviatchenko himself said, as quoted by BT, “I’m 26 in October and I want to play every weekend, but now I’m hurt and that’s what I’m dealing with.

“Whether you’re ready to change clubs or to stay where you are, there is nothing in my mind now. Right now, I’m focused on getting back to full fitness.”

Good move for Celtic?

Sviatchenko started off last season as a mainstay in the Celtic side but he lost his place towards the end of the season.

He played in Celtic’s first Champions League qualifier against Linfield this season and was then injured in the second leg of the win against Rosenborg.

He’s missed the start of the Premiership season and Nir Bitton, Mikael Lustig and Jozo Simunovic have kept Celtic solid at the back, conceding just one league goal.

However, it’s clear that Celtic need depth in their squad and it would be a bad move to consider a move for the 25-year-old now.

Likely to happen?

The report says it’s unlikely and that’s the way we see it too.

The two Italian clubs were reportedly interested in January too and a move didn’t happen then.

With Celtic through to the group stage of the Champions League and looking set for another fabulously successful season, we don’t see Rodgers getting rid of a player who can offer solid support to the first team and potentially challenge for a spot in the starting XI himself.
