OPINION

West Ham have reportedly tabled a bid of £2.8million for PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet this summer but are way below the Dutch giants valuation of their first-choice stopper.

Dutch outlet Voetbal International claim that the 26-year-old was the subject of the offer from the Hammers, who wanted to sign the nine-time Holland international as back-up for Man City loanee Joe Hart.

However, a move is yet to materialise as PSV value the goalkeeper at £5.6million, while Spaniard Adrian remains at the club as second choice behind Hart.

It is said that Crystal Palace and Benfica have also shown interest in Zoet, with PSV informing the goalkeeper that he would be allowed to leave the club if their valuation is met.

This Is Futbol weighs up if a move for Zoet would turn out to be good deal for West Ham, and if the Hammers are likely to complete a transfer for the PSV ace before the end of the window.

Good move for West Ham?

Hart’s form since moving to the Hammers has been mediocre at best, conceding 10 Premier League goals in just three games after suffering three straight losses to Manchester United, Southampton and Newcastle.

Although Zoet would not be considered first choice should he move to the London Stadium, he certainly possesses plenty of quality between the sticks and would have Hart looking nervously over his shoulder.

The goalkeeper possesses plenty of ability and his winning mentality would be a welcome boost to the Hammers, who need a spark. Two Dutch league titles to his name, Zoet knows how to be in a side that are playing under pressure.

His experience on the international stage as well as in European cup competitions would make him a solid acquisition in the Premier League, and he is easily worth the requested £5.6million.

Likely to happen?

Sky Sports claimed earlier this month that Newcastle were interested in signing Adrian, while Darren Randolph has since joined Championship side Middlesbrough.

If Adrian does leave, then the Hammers should up their bid to PSV’s valuation. However, with only two days left in the transfer window, it seems unlikely that Adrian will depart.

With Zoet also unlikely to be happy with sitting on the substitutes’ bench in east London, the Hammers are unlikely to convince the goalkeeper that a move to West Ham would benefit the goalkeeper.

A lot of persuasion will need to be done to sign Zoet, as well as offloading Adrian quickly if they are to secure a deal.
