OPINION

Tottenham are reportedly in talks with Ajax about the possibility of signing their defender Davinson Sanchez.

The Sun claim that Spurs are keen on securing their first signing of the transfer window and have entered talks with the Dutch club in Amsterdam.

It is understood that Ajax value the 21-year-old at around £35million and that the likes of Chelsea, Barcelona and Crystal Palace are all keen on the wonderkid.

The report details that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is plotting to secure a bargain deal and submit an opening £25million bid.

Good move for Spurs?

Mauricio Pochettino has defender his club’s stale transfer window so far and claimed he wants players that can improve his starting XI, well that would be the case in the shape of Sanchez.

The highly-rated defender was colossal for Ajax last season and English audiences will have seen him deliver a great display in the Europa League final against Manchester United.

He is a very powerful defender who reads the ball well and is decent in possession.

Sanchez has all the attributes of a modern-day defender and the centre-back could slot into the back three alongside Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

The Colombia international is not yet the finished article, but would certainly improve under Pochettino and could out to be great value at £25million.

Likely to happen?

Sanchez is one of the most promising defenders in Europe and seems destined to leave Ajax at some time in the near future.

Spurs do have the £50million windfall of Kyle Walker’s sale this summer to spend and Pochettino has vowed that their will be new arrivals at the north London club in the transfer window.

The Ajax ace fits the profile of a Spurs signing and the youngster has plenty of room to develop into a superstar.

However, they will face tough competition for his signature and Levy may be forced to splash out to beat off the likes of Barcelona.
