Two Premier League sides are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer during the summer transfer window.

The Sun claims that Crystal Palace, West Ham and Stoke City are both keen to secure the signature of the 24-year-old and he is reportedly keen to remain in the Premier League should he move away from North London.

The newspaper claims that Spurs are looking to receive around £20million for the fringe defender this summer.

Good move for Tottenham?

Unfortunately for Wimmer, his move to White Hart Lane two years ago coincided with Spurs also completing a deal for defender Toby Alderweireld who has formed a formidable partnership with fellow Belgian teammate Jan Vertonghen.

The Austrian has understandably been unable to break his way into the starting line up over the last couple of seasons as Spurs have boasted the best defensive record in the Premier League in that time.

Wimmer’s confidence also must have taken a severe knock when he scored an own-goal in the North London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last season.

The defender’s future appears to be away from Spurs after he was an unused substitute in the opening day league victory against newly-promoted side Newcastle United.

In fact, the central defender has not featured for Tottenham in the Premier League since February when they faced Stoke City at White Hart Lane.

Although the Austrian has the potential to deliver impressive performances once given a run of games with another Premier League side, it is unlikely that Spurs will live to regret the decision to offload him especially as there are reports that they are in the hunt to sign Ajax defender Davison Sanchez this summer.

Likely to happen?

With the player reportedly keen on staying in the Premier League, there is every chance that he could leave Spurs this summer.

The main stumbling block in this deal would be Tottenham’s asking price of £20million as teams such as Stoke and Palace might feel that this is far too much for a fringe player.

Wimmer’s departure from Spurs will surely take place should Spurs complete a deal for Ajax’s Sanchez and that might even persuade Tottenham to lower their price tag.
