Rafa Benitez should continue to scour the Spanish scouting pool for a new Newcastle striker after having a bid rejected for Stoke City forward Joselu.

Sky Sports’ north east reporter Keith Downie revealed on his personal Twitter account that the 27-year-old was the subject of an offer from the Toon, but Mark Hughes has decided to block Newcastle in their attempts to sign Joselu.

The German-born Spaniard was sent on loan to La Liga outfit Deportivo La Coruna last season and found the back of the net six times in 24 league and cup outings for the top-tier side.

It comes as no surprise that Benitez has attempted to sign another Spanish player after bringing Javier Manquillo and Mikel Merino to St. James’ Park this summer already, along with Christian Atsu, Florian Lejeune and Jacob Murphy.

This Is FutbolĀ considers three Spanish strikers that Newcastle can sign instead of Joselu after having a bid rejected, as Benitez looks to continue to add to his side ahead of their opener against Tottenham on August 13.
