Leeds have reportedly enquired over the possibility of signing Huddersfield striker Nahki Wells before the end of the transfer window but face competition from three other English sides.

The Daily Mail claim Leeds have asked Huddersfield for Wells, with the 27-year-old falling down the pecking order under David Wagner following the signings of Steve Mounie, Laurent Depoitre and a permanent deal for Elias Kachunga.

The Whites will be desperate to add a striker before the end of the transfer window following the loss of New Zealand international Chris Wood, who has joined Burnley for £15millon plus add-ons.

However, Leeds face competition from Premier League side Burnley, who are also interested in Wells despite signing Wood. Sean Dyche’s side have made an enquiry, along with Reading and Wolves.

This Is Futbol analyses how signing Wells would benefit Leeds in their hunt for promotion, as well as considering how likely a deal can be completed.

Good move for Leeds?

Luring Wells to Elland Road from Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield would be an excellent signing, due to his ratio of around one goal in every three Championship appearances throughout his career.

Scoring 45 goals in 144 outings in England’s second tier, Wells is proven in the Championship and even has promotion experience after helping Huddersfield into the Premier League last season.

Leeds are looking to end their 13-year wait in the hunt for a return to the Premier League, and Wells knowledge of making the leap to top-flight football will prove beneficial both on and off the pitch.

Thomas Christiansen has got his message of patient, possession football across to the Whites since joining and a smaller, more mobile striker in Wells would see the nine-time Bermuda international shine at Elland Road.

Likely to happen?

The chance of still being able to shine in the Premier League despite being unwanted at Huddersfield would put Burnley in pole position for his signature, even if first-team football is not assured.

Wolves and Reading also offer tempting moves for Wells, who could be on the lookout for a new club after failing to make a single appearance for the Terriers this season.

But Leeds could trump their rivals by making him their first-choice striker, as well as having the money to secure a deal following the sale of Wood.

With less than a year left on his contract, Wells is expected to depart in the next three days and Leeds could well be his new home.
