Thomas Christiansen would be adored by Leeds fans if he lured Elland Road favourite Ross McCormack back to Yorkshire, after the Whites reportedly asked after him.

The Daily Mail claimed in their transfer news column that Leeds had enquired over the 30-year-old attacker, with the Scotland international yet to play this season under Steve Bruce.

It is said that Sunderland were previously interested in the former Fulham attacker but Simon Grayson’s side are yet to agree a loan fee for the versatile forward.

However, if Leeds are willing to pay the fee required to sign McCormack on a temporary basis, then there will be nothing to stop either side from completing a deal.

McCormack is seemingly out of favour at Villa Park after being loaned to Nottingham Forest for the second half of last season, where he managed only seven first-team appearances.

Villa’s number 44 is in desperate need of first-team football in order to reignite his career, after failing to impress in the Midlands following his £12million from Fulham in deal orchestrated by former boss Roberto Di Matteo.

McCormack made 157 league and cup appearances during his four-year spell with Leeds, scoring 58 goals and laying on a further 31 assists as he endeared himself to the Yorkshire faithful.

He is still thought of highly at Leeds despite being sold by former owner Massimo Cellino to Fulham, and a return to Elland Road and the love of Whites fans could be just what he needs to get back to his best.

Leeds need another striker after allowing Marcus Antonsson to join Blackburn and doubts surrounding the future of last season’s top scorer Chris Wood.

With McCormack expected to leave Villa on loan this summer, owner Andrea Radrizzani would also save the club money by bringing the striker back to Elland Road rather than splashing out on someone else.

His form in the Championship is also second to none, scoring more than a goal every three games with 120 strikes in 333 games as well as adding 58 assists.

Offering quality from set-pieces and corners, as well as being able to play in the number 10 role and out wide, McCormack would be an integral part of Leeds’ chase for promotion glory.

This would be the deal of the summer if Radrizzani pulled it off.
