Leeds United have enquired about the possibility of re-signing Ross McCormack, according to the Mail.

The newspaper claim that the Yorkshire giants have made contact with Aston Villa about a deal for the forward, 30, after he failed to agree a loan move to Sunderland.

Good move for Leeds?

Assuming McCormack’s 2016-17 campaign was a one-off that should best be consigned to the dustbin of history, then yes. The Scot was out of form and out of shape last season when he miserably failed to live up to his reputation at Villa (he wasn’t alone in that), but he has a Championship record to die for, knows how to find the back of the net and is still only 30 and with something to prove. McCormack is remembered at Leeds as one of their best players of the last decade, a clever deep-lying forward who can design the play and finish clinically. If his head is right and he gets trim, he would be a massive asset to a team overly reliant upon Chris Wood for goals.

Likely to happen?

On the face of it, no. According to the Mail, McCormack is on £45,000-a-week at Villa, the kind of wages that are way beyond what Leeds have been willing to pay for over a decade. But the Scot is way down the pecking order at Villa Park after falling out massively with Steve Bruce and the club are likely to subsidise his wages to get him out of the door. That gives Leeds more than a decent chance, although there might need to be some smart negotiating.
