Rob Green is “clearly” leaving Leeds United after he was omitted from their squad for Saturday’s televised clash against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, according to a reliable journalist.

The veteran goalkeeper, 37, made way in the matchday 18 for youngster Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who has been promoted to provide cover for first choice Felix Wiedwald.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Lee Sobot, who is a reliable source of Leeds transfer information, interpreted Green’s omission as a clear signal that he is “off” as his Elland Road career draws to a close ahead of next Thursday’s deadline.

This comes after Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay claimed on his personal Twitter account on Friday evening that Leeds are 48 hours away from re-signing keeper Andy Lonergan, 33.

It has been reported that Huddersfield have set their sights on Green, who was an ever-present in the Championship under former manager Garry Monk last season.

The appointment of Thomas Christiansen has led to a demotion for the former England international, with Wiedwald immediately installed as the number one after signing from Werder Bremen.

Wiedwald’s selection against Forest is the fifth consecutive league match in which he has started this season.

It appears that Leeds’ 5-1 midweek demolition of Newport County will be Green’s final match for the club as Christiansen selected a second-string line-up that featured nine changes from the side that beat Sunderland 2-0 in the league last weekend.
