The captain’s armband at Leeds is up for grabs as Liam Bridcutt’s position in the starting line-up under Thomas Christiansen remains under threat.

The Spanish manager failed to comment on who would lead the Yorkshire giants out of the tunnel in Sunday’s Championship opener against Bolton, simultaneously ending any hope Bridcutt has of retaining the position.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash in Lancashire, Christiansen stated that he wants a captain that is respected by the entire Leeds squad but refused to state who that would be:

“It’s easy to go out and say ‘you will be the captain’ but I want a captain who is respected by the players and who is one that the other players look up to and is somebody who is a leader,” Christiansen told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“We have several captains in the team but you will see it on Sunday as in the XI that will play there will be a captain there.”

Fans have been trying to predict the new captain ahead of Christiansen’s first game in charge, with many new signings expected to make their first-team bow against Phil Parkinson’s newly-promoted side.

This Is Futbol ranks five Leeds players that have the leadership qualities and maturity to be given the honour of wearing the armband against Bolton and for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.
