Celtic are reportedly willing to allow young playmaker Liam Henderson to leave the club on the cheap before the end of the transfer window.

The Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon claimed on his personal Twitter account that Brendan Rodgers would allow 21-year-old Henderson to leave the club for just £300,000 this summer.

Nixon believes that at such a low price, Henderson would be a good buy for an English Championship side.

Henderson has fallen down the pecking order at Celtic and is yet to make an appearance this season, with the likes of Tom Rogic, Stuart Armstrong and Callum McGregor ahead of him in the pecking order.

Now in the final year of his contract, Rodgers could look to offload before Thursday’s 11pm deadline for a six-figure fee instead of losing him for nothing next summer.

Good move for Celtic?

Henderson has shown in glimpses what he is capable of at Celtic Park since Rodgers joined, but managed only one goal in the 13 appearances he made in all competitions last season.

The signing of Olivier Ntcham has also pushed the Celtic academy graduate down the pecking order, with the likes of Anthony Ralston, Calvin Miller and Kieran Tierney all making the step up.

Despite an impressive 2015-16 season-long loan spell to Hibernian that saw him score six goals and create a huge 16 assists during 48 league and cup outings, it seems his time at Celtic is over.

Selling him now for a fee would be a much better move for the Hoops than letting him go for nothing next summer.

Likely to happen?

Scottish Premiership sides are likely to be interested in Celtic’s number 53 following his 2015-16 exploits with Hibs, as well as a loan spell to Norwegian giants Rosenborg that saw him score four goals in 13 outings.

At such a low price, he would be affordable for any top tier side as well as clubs in the Football League, should Celtic allow him to leave.

With his contract expiring and way down the pecking order on Parkhead, it seems unlikely that Henderson will be able to resurrect any kind of Celtic career and a move seems to be the only option.
