Rangers have confirmed that wide forward Barrie McKay has rejoined Mark Warburton at English Championship club Nottingham Forest after agreeing the terms of his departure.

The announcement was made on the Glasgow giants’ official Twitter account and website on Wednesday afternoon which stated that the 22-year-old had left Ibrox for England for an undisclosed fee.

The announcement follows reports from the Daily Mail on Tuesday afternoon claiming that Rangers had agreed a £500,000 fee with Nottingham Forest for McKay, whose contract was set to expire next summer.

The reported fee is minimal in comparison to the Daily Record’s report in January which stated that Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig had opened preliminary talks over a £6million move for the young winger.

But, with no development on a contract extension at Ibrox, Rangers would have been keen to sell him this summer instead of losing him on a free next year.

Additionally, manager Pedro Caixinha ordered McKay to train with the Under-20s last week and left him out of both squads in the club’s 2-1 aggregate defeat against Progres Niederkorn in the Europa League.

He did however enjoy different fortunes under ex-boss Warburton and was even called up to the senior Scotland national team, where he earned one cap after impressing onlookers.

McKay will now be looking to recapture what once saw him dubbed as a bright young talent in England where he will be hoping to eventually move up to the Premier League.
