Burnley have confirmed that they have completed the signing of defender Charlie Taylor after he reached the end of his contract with Leeds.

The Clarets announced the news with a post on their official club website on Thursday morning, which said that the 23-year-old has signed “on a four-year deal” at Turf Moor.

However, with Taylor being under the 24 and an academy product of Leeds, the Yorkshire club will be entitled to compensation following his move, and Burnley confirm that a fee “is yet to be determined”.

The Yorkshire Evening Post has previously reported that the fee concerned will eventually be settled at a figure in excess of £5million at a tribunal.

Thursday’s confirmed transfer news brings to an end Leeds’ most drawn-out saga of the window – even though he had made it clear he was leaving a long time ago.

West Brom manager Tony Pulis asserted that he was keen on snapping up Taylor as his release from Elland Road drew nearer, but admitted that the Black Country club were put off by the tribunal fee involved.

As Albion’s interest proved bi-polar, Burnley swooped in and made no delay in snapping up the highly-rated left-back, who featured prominently in Garry Monk’s side last season.

Taylor made 32 appearances across all competitions last term, supplying four assists as Leeds almost achieved a play-off spot in the Championship.

In total, the Elland Road academy product finished his spell with United after playing 104 times and scoring three goals.

Taylor is the third player to exit Leeds this week, after midfielder Luke Murphy and defender Lewie Coyle secured season-long transfers to Burton Albion and Fleetwood respectively.
