Stoke forward Jonathan Walters has been placed on Steve Bruce’s list of summer targets for Aston Villa, according to the Telegraph.

The news outlet has detailed that the Potters’ 33-year-old is on a list compiled by Bruce, which also features his midfield teammate Glenn Whelan.

It is said that the experienced manager is looking to build a team ready to win promotion to the Premier League this summer and this has seen him linked with a number of experienced members of the top-flight.

Ex-Chelsea defender John Terry is also reported to be closing in on a move to the Midlands giants following the end of his contract at Stamford Bridge on Friday.

He would mark Aston Villa’s first signing of the summer window and players like Walters could soon follow the 36-year-old through the Villa Park doors.

The experienced Ireland international has been a part of the Stoke team for seven years after joining from Ireland in the summer of £2.75million.

Last season he featured 23 times in the Premier League, returning four goals and two assists, but he has also entered the final year of his contract at Mark Hughes’ club.

At this stage of his career he may be seeking one last shot of glory and Walters, who can play across the attacking front three would certainly get that if he helps Aston Villa make their return to England’s top-flight.
