Former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood believes that Everton are on the verge of snapping up one of the best playmakers in the country in Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The 27-year-old has been in hot form for Swansea in recent seasons and has earned a lot of plaudits for his ability to deliver wicked balls into the box, which is reflected in his goal scoring and assists stats.

Last season saw the Icelandic attacker find the net on ten occasions while setting up his teammates 13 times in 40 appearances across all competitions

The Telegraph reported on Thursday that Everton had tabled a £40million bid for the 27-year-old, who has been left at home while Swansea jet off on their pre-season tour of the USA.

Ronald Koeman hasn’t been afraid to splash the cash on bringing in new faces to Merseyside this summer, and Sherwood believes that Sigurdsson would be the best of the bunch.

“Everton have already made a number of signings but there’ll be none bigger that Gylfi Sigurdsson because he is such a good player,” said the former England international, as quoted by TalkSport host Alan Brazil on his official Sports Breakfast Twitter account.

“He’s up there in the top three in the country with his delivery. He is a great player.”

Everton have already completed the signings of Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Sandro Ramirez, Michael Keane and Wayne Rooney, as well as investing in the future with purchases of Henry Onyekuru, Boris Mathis and Josh Bowler.

It’s a big claim from Sherwood that Sigurdsson’s signing would trump all of them deals, especially after Rooney’s incredible return to Goodison Park after 13 glory-ridden years at Manchester United.
